What we do:

The LTS team provide skilled technical support, experienced pedagogic advice and targeted training for St George's staff and students around the use of several technologies that enable an enhanced teaching and learning experience.

The technologies we support:

For 2017/18 academic year, Moodle is the primary VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) in use at St George's. Most courses (except those using Canvas - see below) that are taught at St George's have a dedicated Moodle site, where key course documents, learning resources including weblinks, Panopto lecture recordings and other materials and assessment activities can be uploaded and accessed 24/7.

Canvas is the new VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) being introduced at St George's. Canvas is being rolled out in 2 phases. Phase 1 (2017/18 academic year) includes MBBS4 Year 1, Biomedical Science Year 1, Diagnostic Radiography, Therapeutic Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Physiotherapy MSc (pre-registration). All other St George’s courses will operate as normal in Moodle until they are rolled over to Canvas in phase 2. The introduction of Canvas will change the way course and module information is presented and distributed by providing a consistent, easy to use online working environment.

Myprogress is currently St George’s chosen ePortfolio system for students completing Workplace Based Assessments. The system, available via the web and a dedicated app, is used to complete observational assessments of students on placement. The app allows for the completion of assessments where there is no PC or access to Wi-fi. Students send responses to their online account (used by tutors and administrators to monitor progress) by simply syncing their device when a reliable Wi-fi service is available.

A tool to indicate the similarities between work that is submitted by students and checked against websites, databases and other previously submitted work. It will flag up any matches it finds that are similar or identical. It provides vital assistant to students to improve their writing styles, referencing and ensuring they are producing the best written work. It is important all students have an equal opportunity to access this tool when submitting assessments.

A flexible, easy-to-use lecture capture solution that is installed in all St George's lecture theatres and teaching rooms. Panopto enables every lecture to be recorded as it is being delivered, with the audio synced to the PowerPoint or visualiser projection shown on screen. This recording is then uploaded to Moodle / Canvas so that it can be replayed by students for the purposes of reinforcing learning or revision at the their convenience.
